Left student organization SFI Tripura hold protests against attempts to make schools under the Vidyajyoti scheme English medium from Class IX and charging high fees.
On Thursday, SFI staged protest in the city center premises of the capital Agartala. State Secretary Sandipan Deb led the protest.
He said that English is being imposed in Bengali medium schools under Vidyajyoti Scheme. And it is very difficult. Because it involves financial matters of students. Because there are many students in Bengali medium schools, whose families are financially weak. They will not be able to overcome the financial cost of studying in English medium from class 9 onwards. As a result, many parents have already decided to take their children out of Vidyajyoti schools and enroll them elsewhere. It can be called a kind of crisis for the students of the state.
Schools under the Vidyajyoti scheme are rampantly increasing fees. Fees are charged at higher rates especially for Madhyamik and Higher Secondary exams. If the fee is increased in this way, it is not possible for the majority of students to study. Because during the period of this government, the people already suffering for livelihood. In this situation, increasing the fees in schools will affect the education of the students. Therefore, such a decision of the government is strongly protested, said SFI Secretary Sandipan Deb.
And even if the fee is increased at a high rate, the government will have to bear the subsidy, he said.
Beside , a demand is being made to the government that who have enrolled in Bengali medium schools their medium of examination should be Bengali from ninth to twelfth standard.
