Shock For Power Consumers Ahead Of Durga Puja As Tripura Hikes Tariff By 5-7%

Now with property tax the double engine government of Tripura also increased the electricity tariff.

Electricity tariff is increasing at the rate of five-seven percent. Increased tariff will be effective from October 1.

The Tripura State Electricity Regulatory Commission has announced the increase in electricity tariffs in an order on Friday, September 22.

This will increase the price of electricity per unit every month. Fixed charge also increasing.

“On the eve of Shard utsav, (Durga Puja Festival) the BJP government has started imposing new tax burden on the people of the state one after another” said opposition.

On the one hand, the burden of additional property tax has been imposed on the residents of Agartala in the name of survey.

The new addition on top of that is the increase in electricity tariff.

Agartala Municipal Corporation seems violating its own rules. A list of new assets has been made and sent door to door and it has been said that this tax for the financial year 2023-24 should be paid by October 5. Otherwise, an additional 10 percent penalty will be charged. But according to the rules of AMC, the last date for filing Property tax is the last date of the relevant financial year. That is, the last date for filing property tax for the financial year 2023-24 is March 31, 2024. And the Corporation is saying that October 5 is the last day to submit the Corporation’s decided property tax.

Meanwhile, Electricity charges has been increased from October 1. The Regulatory Commission says it decided the increased power tariff after talking to the State Electricity Corporation.

The commission also mentioned that the corporation is running in loss now.

On the other hand Power Minister of the state Ratan Lal Nath said that ” Maximum of our power plants are Gas based. So as the price of Gas increased in the international market due to Russia-Ukraine war, there was no other way to increase the power tariff”.
