Shuttle service from Akhaura ICP to MBB Airport was started on Friday for the convenience of passengers coming from Bangladesh.
Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder inaugurated it. On November 17, 2013, Agartala-Akhaura, the first Integrated Check Post in the North-Eastern region and India’s second land port, started its journey with neighboring Bangladesh. A ceremony was organized at Akhaura Land Port on the occasion of 10 years anniversary on this day.
Mayor Dipak Majumdar was present as the chief guest on the occasion. MLA Surajit Dutta, Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh High Commission in Agartala Arif Md and others were present as special guests.
Mayor Dipak Majumder launched the shuttle service from Akhaura border to the airport for the convenience of Bangladeshi passengers. With the help of which the passengers of Bangladesh can travel to Agartala airport at a very low cost.
BSF jawans organized a blood donation camp on this day. Mayor and other guests visited the blood donation camp.
While speaking, the mayor said that 10 years ago where 30 thousand people used to travel from Bangladesh to India and from India to Bangladesh, now about 40 thousand people travel in a month.
He opined that so many passengers travel through this port because of the improvement in services.
He also said that we have a cordial relationship with Bangladesh. The mayor also said that import and export trade has increased. Along with this, the quality of life of people working in various fields related to the port has improved.
Passengers from Bangladesh use this land port every day for medical treatment in different parts of India. Bangladeshi citizens avail services of various hospitals in India through Agartala airport using this port at low cost.
It is only a matter of time that the decision to beautify this land port and develop multi-purpose services and entertainment facilities including cafeteria for passengers will be implemented in the coming days. The mayor expressed hope that in the coming days too, as in the past 10 years, activities towards the land port, providing benefits to the citizens of the two countries, will strengthen the spiritual contact and friendship with the neighboring country Bangladesh.
