Supreme Court Can’t Be A ‘Tarikh-Pe-Tarikh’ Court: CJI Chandrachud

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Friday, November 3, expressed concern over the delay in resolving pending cases in the Supreme Court and postponement of hearings.

CJI said the lawyers that we do not want this (Supreme Court) to become courts with . ‘Tarikh-Pe-Tarikh’.

He said an average of 154 cases are avoided every day. If so many cases remain in adjournment (adjournment or postponement) then it does not reflect a good image of the court.

The CJI also appealed to the lawyers not to demand postponement of the hearing unless necessary.

In fact, CJI Chandrachud expressed his displeasure over the demand for adjournment by the lawyer appearing during the hearing of a case.

The Supreme Court is continuously hearing the listed cases and maximum adjustments are demanded in these cases.

CJI Chandrachud said that in the last two months, the number of adjourned cases was three times more than the listed cases. We are hearing the cases quickly, but then in the same cases, adjournment is sought.

He appealed to the members and lawyers of the Supreme Court Bar Association and the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association not to demand postponement of the hearing unless necessary.
