Supreme Court To Pronounce Judgment On Same Sex Marriage Tomorrow

The Supreme Court likely to give a big decision on Tuesday (October 17) regarding same sex marriage.

In the petitions filed in the Supreme Court, there has been a demand to bring gay marriages under the Special Marriage Act and register them.

The petitioners say that in 2018, the Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court had repealed a part of Section 377 of the IPC that criminalizes homosexuality.

Due to this, consensual homosexual relations between two adults are no longer considered a crime. In such a situation, gay marriage should be approved.

Gay couple have filed an application in the Supreme Court asking that the marriage of homosexuals should be recognized under the Special Marriage Act.

On behalf of petitioners Supriyo Chakraborty and Abhay Dang, it has been said that they have been living as a couple for 10 years. The Special Marriage Act discriminates on the basis of gender and is unconstitutional.
