The Supreme Court has ordered all the States/Union Territories to take suo motu action against hate speech.
The court extended its 2022 order to all states/union territories. The top court said that in order to maintain the secular character of India, take action against those who make mistakes, regardless of religion.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had given this order only to the UP, Delhi and Uttarakhand governments.
Now this order has been given to all the states. During the hearing, Justice KM Joseph said that hate speech is a serious crime affecting the fabric of the nation. It affects the heart of our republic and the dignity of the people.
