Tarnishing India’s Image: PT Usha On Veteran Wrestlers’ Dharna

The country’s veteran wrestlers are sitting on a dharna in Delhi demanding action against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Meanwhile, on Thursday (April 27), Olympic medalist wrestler Sakshi Malik became so emotional in front of the camera that she cried while talking to the media.

She was responding to the reaction of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha. PT Usha had raised questions on the strike of the wrestlers and accused them of indiscipline.

Sakshi Malik said, “…It is very sad because being a woman player, she (PT Usha) is not listening to the women players. We have been following her since childhood, we have been inspired by her at some point that she has done so much good for the country… But if she can say this as a woman…”

” where is the indiscipline? we are sitting here peacefully. We would not even sit here if we were to be heard. The hearing did not happen even after waiting for three months, that is why we are forced to do this” She said.

PT Usha, popularly known as India’s Flynn, said,  The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has a committee for sexual harassment complaints. Instead of going on the streets, they (protesting wrestlers) could have come to us first, but they did not come to the IOA. Not only for the wrestlers, it is not good for sports as well. They should also have some discipline.

Veteran wrestlers are sitting on a dharna at Jantar Mantar in Delhi with allegations of sexual harassment and threatening wrestlers against WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

These include many wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik. The IOA’s investigation into the allegations against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is yet to be completed. At the same time, the investigation of the monitoring panel constituted by the government has not been made public yet.

Three months ago the wrestlers raised their voice against the President of the Wrestling Federation. After this, since last April 23, they (wrestlers) have been staging a sit-in at Jantar Mantar.

Wrestlers have also approached the Supreme Court regarding the arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

It is being said that the Indian Olympic Association is angry with this move of the wrestlers.
