The traditional Chaitra Mela (Fair of Sale) will start from April 4 at Shakuntala Road and Jackson Gate area under the management of Agartala Municipal Corporation.
The fair will continue till April 14 i.e 11 days. The fair is being arranged this year like every year with the aim that the businessmen of the poor sections can come to Agartala city in the month of Chaitra ( Last month according to the Bengali Calendar) and earn as expected income.
However, the corporation authority will not collect any kind of space rent or tax from the small traders who will do business in the fair.
Such a decision has been taken keeping in mind the businessmen of the poorer sections.
In reply to the questions of the journalists while inspecting the preparation of the fair on Sunday, the Mayor of AMC said that the verbal complaints received that some people are trying to extort money are being investigated. Businessmen against whom complaints have been made have been summoned and instructed not to step out of their own shop premises. Then strict action will be taken against that trader.
AMC mayor Deepak Majumder has warned that strict action will be taken against them if they get information with evidence.
He also said that strict action will be taken if anyone tries to occupy the road and do business after the Chaitra Mela. Besides, after the Chaitra Mela against addiction, the corporation authorities will be strict. The mayor warned in advance about this.
He said that those who do business in the name of fast food on the busy streets of Agartala city should put four chakkas in the warehouse. To close the door of addiction, traders can enter Agartala city with vendors after 11 am and after 11 pm, no vendor can be on the streets in the city. This step will be taken to make Tripura drug free. Action will be taken against those who sell food to people on tables and chairs with vendor license.
