Tripura: Assam Rifles Seized 800 Kg Ganja From Hejamara

As part of a massive crackdown on narcotics and drug abuse in the state, the Agartala battalion of the Assam Rifles seized 800 kg of marijuana here on Saturday, said an official statement.

Two persons, identified as Akash Rabi and Chittaranjan Munda, have also been detained in this case, the statement said.

According to the statement, the ganja was kept hidden in the backyard of Biplab Santal of Sidhai police station Munda Para.

” Based on inputs received from a reliable source of illegal processed marijuana being concealed in large quantity in Hejamara village, a team of Agartala Battalion of Assam Rifles launched a swift operation, seizing 800 kgs of Marijuana (Ganja) after thorough investigation and search of the area” the statement said.

The value of the seized ganja has been estimated by the state police worth Rs 2.4 crore. The seized ganja has been handed over to Sidhai police station, Tripura.

“An FIR has been registered against the person from whom the goods have been recovered,” the statement added.

In a similar incident, the Agartala battalion of the Assam Rifles seized 250 kg of ganja, worth Rs 70 lakh, at Manikayanagar village in Sepahijala district on Tuesday.

The ganja was hidden under the garden of Motilal Das in Manikayanagar village of Sepahijala district.

According to an official statement, “Based on inputs received from a reliable source of illegal processed marijuana being concealed in Manikayanagar village, a joint operation was launched by Agartala Battalion of Assam Rifles with a representative from Kalam Chaura Police Station, Sepahijala District, Tripura”

The operation party seized 250 kgs of marijuana after a search operation in the area. The value of the seized marijuana has been estimated by the state police worth Rs 70 lakh. The seized marijuana has been handed over to the Kalam Chaura Police Station, Sepahijala District, Tripura and an FIR has been registered against the owner from where the articles were recovered,” the statement said
