Apart from big states like Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka, assembly elections are also to be held in Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Mizoram in 2023, preparations for which have started.
The team of Election Commission of India (ECI) will visit Tripura next year to review the preparations for the assembly elections to be held in the state in early 2023.
An official informed on Thursday that the tour would be of two days and would start from January 11.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) team led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar will hold a meeting with representatives of political parties during their visit to the northeastern state.
Along with this, the security arrangements will be reviewed for the election of 60-member assembly.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Tripura Kiran Gitte said, “The entire EC team headed by Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar and two Election Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goyal is scheduled to arrive here on January 11 and they will be here for the next two days.”
He said that during the visit, the EC team will hold a meeting with the Election Officers and the Chief Secretary and take stock of the “revised voter list and other preparations for conducting free and fair elections”.
The CEO said that the final voter list for the assembly elections will be released on January 5 next year.
He said the EC team would hold a separate meeting with the Superintendents of Police of all the eight districts in Tripura on security arrangements in the presence of the Director General of Police (DGP) and Inspector General of Police (IGP).
A total of 100 companies of central paramilitary forces have been sanctioned to ensure adequate security arrangements during the elections in the northeastern state, the official said.
The official said that several companies of central forces have already reached here and the process of sending them to the districts has also started.
The CEO said that the EC team would also hold a meeting with the representatives of political parties to seek their suggestions for free and fair elections.
The EC team will go to Shillong in Meghalaya on January 13 and there it will take stock of the preparations for the elections.
