Tripura Civic Bodies Poll Announced: Voting On Nov 25. Result, Nov 28

The state election commission of Tripura has announced the schedule for polls to the 20 Urban Local Bodies including Agartala Municipal Corporation on Friday along with promulgation of the Model Code of Conduct in the civic body areas spread across 18 out of 23 total subdivisions of the state. 

State Election Commissioner ML Dey announced the poll schedule and sought cooperation from people for smooth conduct of the polls. 

According to Dey, the state election commission will issue the notification for the elections on October 27 next and on that day the Returning Officers will be issuing the public notice inviting nomination papers. 

The process of nomination submission will continue till November 03 next and the date for scrutiny of nomination has been fixed on November 05. The candidates can withdraw their nominations till November 08 but not after 3pm in the afternoon. 

The polls, if required , will be conducted on November 25 next while the voting time has been fixed between 7 am in the morning to 4 pm in the evening. The counting will start from 8 am on November 28 next. The entire process of polls is slated to end on December 4 next, Dey told reporters. 

“With the announcement of the polls, the model code of conduct has come into force and I hope all the political parties will comply with the rules of the model code of conduct”, said Dey. 

In order to make the poll process transparent, Dey said, the whole poll process will be shot on video camera except the voting. On Webcasting, he said, it is yet to be decided but assured that it will depend on the arrangements. 

A total of 5,94,772 voters were eligible to cast their votes in these elections but what seemed unique was the number of female voters outnumbered the total male voters in the urban areas. The number of female voters stood at 3 lakh 7 thousand 77 while the number of male voters was 2 lakh 93 thousand 979 as per the voter list published in January 2021. Pollings would be conducted in 770 polling stations.
