Former member of CPI(M) Central Committee, veteran communist leader, long-time leader of CPI(M) Parliamentary Party, Basudeb Acharia breathed his last at a private hospital in Hyderabad at 12 noon on Monday due to old age. He was 81 years old.

In a press statement CPIM Tripura State Secretariat mentioned:
Comrade Basudeb Acharia was born on 11th July 1942 in Purulia.
He was involved in the Adivasi movement in Purulia and the Sangmata movement, student movement.
Through Comrade Basudev Acharia came in contact with the party. Later in the labor movement Played an important role. Especially to organize railway and coal workers.
Comrade Basudeb Acharia became party central committee member in 2005 elected chairman of the party’s Central Control Commission in 2018
He was elected from 1980 to 2009 from Purulia Lok Sabha seat 9 consecutive times.
He played and important role as the parliamentary party leader in the Lok Sabha.
He was the Railway Standing Committee Chairman during the UPA government.
While Chairman of Railway Standing Committee He played a significant role in the expansion of the railways in Tripura.
During the fascist terror of the coalition rule in Tripura in 1988-93, he came to the state and played an important role as an MP in restoring democracy and defeat the coalition government.
The State Secretariat of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Tripura expresses deep grief over the demise of Comrade Basudeb Acharia and conveys heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family.
