Secretary of Education Department, Saumya Gupta, an IAS oflicer of 2004 batch, has been posted as Joint Secretary of Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Human Resource Development for five years, according to official sources.
Ms Gupta, who is the Secretary of RD department is now in Guwahati and expected to leave the state on Thursday. Actually, Ms Gupta wanted to get deputation in the Prime Minister’s Ofice (PMO) as the Joint Secretary but she was denied.
With Ms Gupta leaving the state administration shortly, the govemment has begun an exercise to appoint a new Secretary for the Education and RD departments.
It has been learnt that senior IAS officers-Brijesh Pandey, the Secretary of Finance department, Dr. PK Goyel, the Secretary of Industries and Commerce and Tanushree Debbarma appeared as contender for the Secretary of Education.
However, Dr. Goyel is the front runner for the post as he had worked in the Education department as the Director.
Sources said, Tanushree Debbarma is trying to get posted out and wants to settle in Bangalore for three years.
Sonal Goyel, who was posted as the Spl Secretary (independent charge) of ICA department is yet to take up her new assignment.
