Regular classes for students of standard V to VIII resumed in schools of Tripura from Monday. The school campuses were again abuzz with the screams of children after a long time. However, the attendance of students is subjected to the consent of their parents. Regular classes in schools have remained suspended for more than nine months in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, classes for students of X and XII standards began on December 7 last year and those of standards IX and XI began on December 28. The Tripura government decided to reopen colleges as well as hostels from Monday as there has been a gradual decline in the number of Covid-19 cases in the state during the past three weeks. All educational institutions have been conducting online classes for students during the ongoing pandemic. Since Covid-19 vaccines are yet to arrive in the state, the Tripura education department directed all school authorities to clean and sanitize the school buildings and campuses properly before conducting regular classes for the students. The school authorities will also have to submit a report on the sanitization of school campuses to the education department.
