Tripura: Storm Hits 12 Subdivisions Of 7 Districts. 120 Families Are In Relief Camp

Heavy rains following the storm on April 21 caused widespread devastation across Tripura as 2461 houses were either severely or completely damaged, while 120 families are still living in relief camps.

A detailed report by the State Emergency Operation Center said that Khowai district is worst hit by the April 21 storm.

“The typhoon that hit Khowai district on April 21 has hit Khowai district very badly, as about 1105 houses have been completely damaged, while 1072 houses have been partially damaged.” informed an official.

The detailed report further states that after Khowai district, Longtarai Valley sub-division of Dhalai district has affected 842 houses, of which 18 are completely, 156 severely and 668 partially damaged.

The government has also opened two relief camps in which 534 people from 120 families are staying. Besides these, 76 houses were badly damaged in Kanchanpur subdivision of North district, 3 houses were partially damaged in Kumarghat subdivision of Unakoti district, 31 houses including 17 were severely damaged and 14 partially damaged in Gandacherra of Dhalai district.

While 73 houses were severely damaged including 4 in Teliamura in Khowai district and 69 houses were damaged and two public buildings including a school were also damaged. 37 houses were partially damaged in West district, 13 houses were inundated in Sepahijala district, 83 houses were severely damaged and 181 houses were partially damaged due to the storm and 17 houses were damaged in Gomati district.

However, no one was affected by the storm in the South district.

“The storm has affected at least 12 sub-divisions in 7 districts and the government has provided financial assistance of Rs 4.15 lakh to the victims in Bishalgarh sub-division under Sepahijala district,” the official said.
