A woman was brutally murdered on suspicion of being a witch. Tripura police have arrested eight people for her murder incident.
The incident took place at Nengtibari Kanda Basti area, East Behalbari under Champahaur police station in Khowai district.
The police said that the body of the woman was found in the pit of an abandoned toilet.
Eight people are arrested in this incident. The eight people have been arrested based on the confession of the murder.
In this regard, Ranjan Kand, the husband of the deceased, said that his wife Kaushalya Ghatual has been murdered by his relatives after being abducted.
He said that one of their elder brothers had died. His relatives blamed them for the death and about to beat them up.
Later relatives abducted his wife without harming him. Since then he could not find his wife.
So after reporting the matter to East Behalabari Panchayat, he approached Champahawar police station.
He said that after learning about the kidnapping of his wife, the police went to Kanda Basti and arrested eight suspects from there after interrogation.
On their confession, the police recovered the body of Kaushalya from the pit of an abandoned toilet.
Police said that Kajal Kanda (65), Charit Kanda (40), Chandan Tanti (35), Ajit Kanda (25), Sanjit Kanda (20), Bimal Kanda (19), Mithun Kanda (18) and Akash Kanda ( 18) has been arrested in this murder incident.
According to the police , they went to Kanda Basti after receiving information about the woman’s disappearance at around 5:30 pm on Thursday.
After questioning the accused there, the location of the woman was found. They killed the woman and dumped her in an abandoned toilet pit.
The body was recovered from there and sent for post-mortem.
Police said that the eight arrested have confessed to killing the woman. They were produced in the court on Friday.
