Two Rohingyas were arrested on Sunday from Bishalgarh town on the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura’s Sepahijala district.
A local auto-rickshaw driver was also arrested along with the Rohingya.
They were arrested in the early hours of Sunday when police were checking vehicles at Uttam Bhakta Chowmuhani on the National Highway under subdivision of the district. Bishalgarh
The two arrested youths have been identified as Mohd Rabi Ullah and Mohd Siddiqi and the local auto-rickshaw driver as Prabir Das.
Police stopped an auto rickshaw going from Agartala to Bishalgarh. Inspector-in-charge of Bishalgarh police station Tapas Das told the media that the two men had tried to travel to Madhupur from Agartala railway station. Their intention was to cross the border and enter Bangladesh.
During preliminary investigation, the accused revealed that they were living in Rohingya camp in Cox Bazar, Bangladesh.
They are currently being interrogated by the state police along with intelligence personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF).
During investigation it was found that the arrested youths speak Hindi fluently. They had been working for a long time in some northern states and were returning to Bangladesh via Tripura.
An FIR has been registered against them and investigation has been started.
