Congress meeting was held on Saturday regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the country. In the meeting, the implementation of UCC in the country was discussed.
However, the Congress has not been able to decide its stand even in this meeting.
Congress leader KTS Tulsi told ANI that nothing has been decided yet regarding UCC. The party will decide on it when the central government gives the UCC draft.
The meeting was attended by P Chidambaram, Salman Khurshid, Vivek Tankha, Lok Sabha MPs Manish Tewari, L Hanumanthaiah and Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
Under Article 44 of the Constitution, the Central Government is preparing to implement Uniform Civil Code in the entire country.
Under the UCC, a single law will apply across the country in matters relating to marriage, will, child adoption and other matters.
At the same time, the Law Commission on Friday extended the date for taking suggestions from common people and organizations on Uniform Civil Code (UCC).
Now people’s suggestions on UCC will be accepted till July 28. Earlier this date was fixed as 14 July.
The Law Commission had issued a notice on June 14 seeking suggestions from the general public and organisations.
Till Friday, the commission has received more than 50 lakh suggestions. The Commission believes that this issue is related to every citizen of the country, in such a situation it is necessary to know their opinion before taking any decision.
The last date for giving suggestions on UCC was fixed as July 14.
