Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday participated in the 17th Merit Awards and Freshers Meet 2023, an award distribution program organized for the welfare of students from Mog community in Agartala.
The prize distribution program was organized by the Society for Welfare of the Mog Students (SWMS).
Every year, this society honors and appreciates meritorious students and encourages them to pursue their careers.
The Mogs are an Arakan tribe and migrated to Tripura through the Chittagong Hill Tracts. By religion they are Buddhist.
Speaking in the program CM said:
” Drug spreads grass root level even reached at the school-colleges. Tripura is top in seizure of drug among the North East state. Foreign influence is there in spreading of drug in Tripura”
“There are near about 50,000 Mog community people among 40 lakh population in the state. I appeal to all of you don’t compromise with drug to save the generation next”
“We have decided to change the name of TTAADC to Tripura Territorial Council and already state cabinet have sent this proposal to the central government. Hope the approval will be there soon”
” We also sent the proposal to increase seat in TTAADC from 28 to 50, so that the representatives of various sub-tribes can be there to raise their demands”
