Urban development department, Government of Tripura has approved construction of 21 electric furnaces in the state to make cremation smooth and eco-friendly.
These electric furnaces will be constructed in various urban areas of the state. Each furnace will cost Rs 1.1 crore.
A statement has been issued by the Urban Development Department on Saturday.
Urban Development Department Joint Secretary Rajat Pant said in a statement that electric furnaces are known to be more environment friendly than traditional funerals. It reduces environmental pollution. Also, since the cremation phase is completed very quickly in the electric furnace, the people who come with the dead body have to spend much less time in the crematorium. Electric furnaces have many modern conveniences to make funerals more hygienic.
According to the statement, the Special Assistance for Capital Investment for All Urban Local Bodies scheme will cost Rs 23.36 crore for the construction of these furnaces. Each furnace will cost Rs 1.1 crore.
Construction of these electric furnaces has already started in some urban areas.
