Governor Dissolves Bengal Assembly, Tension Rises

A major political crisis has unfolded in West Bengal after Governor R.N. Ravi dissolved the state Legislative Assembly on Thursday evening. A notification issued from Lok Bhavan confirmed the dissolution, effectively stripping Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet of all executive powers. The development came a day after Mamata Banerjee declared that she would not resign from the post of Chief Minister despite the election setback.

Political tension has escalated across Bengal amid reports of violent clashes between BJP and TMC workers in Shivpur near Howrah. The situation turned more volatile after the personal assistant of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari was shot dead on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, uncertainty continues over government formation in Tamil Nadu. Governor authorities have asked actor Vijay’s party, TVK, to prove majority support in the Assembly after the party secured 108 seats, ten short of the required majority mark of 118. TVK is currently backed by five Congress MLAs.

In a parallel development, the AIADMK has reportedly shifted 28 of its 47 MLAs to Puducherry amid intense political manoeuvring.

Adding another twist to the post-poll scenario, media reports claim that arch-rivals DMK and AIADMK are engaged in backchannel discussions regarding government formation. According to reports, one proposal under discussion involves AIADMK forming the government with outside support from the DMK, along with backing from smaller parties. However, no formal agreement or final decision has been announced so far.
