The Tripura Yuktibad Vikash Mancha on Thursday submitted a deputation to the Director of State Council of Educational Research and Training, demanding the removal of what it termed “unscientific” content from the school curriculum and the introduction of a more science-based education system.
The organization placed a three-point charter of demands before the SCERT authorities. Speaking to reporters, Mancha representative Saikat Kumar Roy objected to the use of images of Rahu and Ketu on the cover of a recently published mathematics textbook, calling for the immediate withdrawal of the design.
The group further demanded that all forms of unscientific content included in the curriculum be removed, arguing that educational materials should promote rational thinking and scientific reasoning rather than mythology or superstition.
Another key demand was the reintroduction of Theory of Evolution in the curriculum. The organization maintained that Darwin’s theory is fundamental to science education and should be taught to students to strengthen scientific understanding and critical thinking.
Members of the Mancha said that modern scientific concepts must receive greater importance in the education system in order to nurture rationality and a scientific temper among students.
After receiving the deputation, SCERT officials reportedly assured the delegation that the issues raised would be examined.
