“New India Doesn’t Bow to Terrorism: PM Modi in Kurukshetra”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday reiterated India’s firm stance on national security, asserting that while the nation advocates peace and universal brotherhood, it will not hesitate to respond decisively to threats. Speaking at a commemorative event in Kurukshetra marking the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the Prime Minister pointed to Operation Sindoor as a defining example of India’s evolving security posture.

Modi said the operation demonstrated that “New India neither fears nor bows before terrorism,” emphasizing a shift toward more assertive, strategic retaliation. He reminded the audience that the world had witnessed India’s clear message— that peace is desired, but national security is non-negotiable.

Operation Sindoor, launched in early May, was India’s direct military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. The operation included air and missile strikes on terror and military infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, involving fighter jets, armed drones, and heavy artillery fire before a ceasefire took effect on May 10. For many, the operation signaled a transformation in India’s doctrine—from reactive to proactive counter-terror strategy.

Earlier in the day, Modi had been in Ayodhya, and during his address, he described the date as a “special convergence of Indian heritage.” Drawing symbolic linkage between India’s spiritual geography, he noted the cultural continuity from Ayodhya, the city of the Ramayana, to Kurukshetra, the land of the Bhagavad Gita.

Modi offered homage to Guru Tegh Bahadur, praising the Sikh Guru’s sacrifice as a historical testament to India’s civilizational values—courage, tolerance, and defense of freedom. The Prime Minister’s remarks combined spiritual messaging with contemporary geopolitical signaling, reinforcing New Delhi’s commitment to safeguarding national integrity while maintaining its identity as a peaceful but resolute global actor.
