10 Died As Flood Situation Worsen in Tripura. CM Visited Temporary Camps

Heavy and incessant rains in the state for the past 72 hours have caused the water level of various rivers to rise drastically leading to flooding in many parts of the state. 182 mm in West Tripura district, 157.60 mm in Khowai district and 153 mm in Gomati district in last 24 hours. 

 It has caused extensive damage due to floods in different areas of the state. Gomti and Unkoti districts are particularly affected.

Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha spoke to the Union Home Minister about the flood situation in the state. The Chief Minister informed the Union Home Minister about the flood situation and requested to send additional NDRF forces to the state immediately. 

A team of NDRF will reach Kailasahar in Unkoti district today and 4 more NDRF troops are being flown in. These 4 forces are likely to reach the state by tonight. 

The news was announced in a press release this evening from the Department of Relief, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management.

According to the press release, the water levels of rivers in Dhalai, Khowai , South Tripura, West Tripura, North Tripura and Unkoti districts of the state have risen above the danger level. A high level of vigilance has been maintained in this emerging situation. 

Various departments of the state administration are working closely with each other to save the citizens from this calamity. 

According to the press release, 330 relief camps have been opened in different districts of the state so far. 32 thousand 750 affected people have taken shelter in these camps. Necessary food, drinking water, medical assistance has been provided to the relief camps from the district administrations.

Moreover, people of  Water Resources, Electricity, Construction (Road and Building), Forest, Defense, Fire Extinguishing and Emergency Services and paramilitary forces have been relentlessly carrying out rescue and relief work for the last three days. 

Over 1,900 landslides have occurred across the state since August 19 due to heavy and excessive rains. Various roads were blocked. These roads are being cleaned regularly. Initial reports indicated damage to houses, livestock, infrastructure and agricultural crops. Damage assessment has started and will be completed soon.

According to the press release, 10 people have died and 1 person is still missing. More than 250 Quick Response Teams of SDRF, NDRF, Civil Defense Volunteers, APADA Mitra Volunteers along with Fire and Emergency Services, Forest, Power, Works, Agriculture and other departments are engaged in relief and rescue operations.

The press release further informed that heavy to very heavy rains are likely to occur at different parts of the state tomorrow as per the Indian Meteorological Department forecast. 

Moreover, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert across the state today. 

Accordingly, the state government has requested the public to be vigilant and cooperate with the district administration in rescue operations.

Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha visited flood affected areas and relief camps. He also looked into the relief management. So that flood affected people get all necessary facilities.

On the other hand  the Chief Minister visited the temporary relief camps of Swami Dayalananda Vidyaniketan in Dhaleshwar, Ramthakur Higher Secondary Girls School and Swami Vivekananda School in Bardwali. Agartala 

Later, Chief Minister Dr. Saha told the media that although he was supposed to go to the south tripura district today, it was not possible due to the bad roads due to heavy rains. That is why I am visiting various places around the capital Agartala. It was never thought that a place like Tripura could receive so much rainfall. It is a natural disaster. In particular, South Tripura district received 375 mm rainfall. Gomti district received about 350 mm of rain. Agartala and Edinnagar received 180 mm of rain today.

The Chief Minister said, I have come to inquire about the flood-affected people. So that they don't have any difficulty. All of us are working to deal with the flood situation. The administration is on everyone's side. Besides this, the councilors are also doing a very good job. 

The officials of the party are also working in the field. There is also a president of our party. He also travels to different places. The president has instructed the party officials to work alongside the people.

Giving information, Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha said that as far as the news is concerned, as many as 320 relief and shelter camps have been opened across the state. More than 30,000 poor people have taken shelter in these camps. Chief Minister also spoke to flood affected people. During the visit, the chief minister was accompanied by the state president of Bharatiya Janata Party Rajeev Bhattacharya and the officials of the administration.

Apart from this, Chief Minister Dr. Saha appeared at the Integrated Command and Control Center at IT Bhawan in Indranagar, Agartala. There he investigated the flood situation of Agartala city through CC camera.

The chief minister said that relief measures have been given special priority by the administration. Let us all make a concerted effort to tackle this natural calamity and work unitedly to help the victims
