36 Passengers Died As Bus Fell Into Gorge In Uttarakhand

A passenger bus fell into a 100 feet deep gorge at 8 am on Monday (4 November) in Almora, Uttarakhand. 36 people lost their lives in this tragic incident, while 6 people are injured. The accident took place near Kupi, where a total of 42 passengers were travelling in the bus. According to the police, the death toll is likely to increase further.

Kumaon Divisional Commissioner Deepak Rawat informed that several passengers fell out of the windows during the bus accident. The bus was going from Kinnath to Ramnagar and got stuck in a tree before falling into the ravine. Disaster Management Officer Vineet Pal said that rescue teams had reached the spot from Salt and Ranikhet. Initial reports have confirmed the death of 28 people on the spot and 8 in the hospital. The injured have been admitted to Ramnagar Hospital and the serious cases will be airlifted to Haldwani. 

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh each to the injured. He ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident and suspended the ARTOs of Pauri and Almora.
A team of expert doctors from AIIMS has been sent to Ramnagar Hospital by helicopter so that the injured can get better treatment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund to the families of each person killed in the accident in Almora, Uttarakhand. The injured will be given Rs 50,000. PM Modi said- My condolences to those who lost their loved ones in the road accident in Almora, Uttarakhand. Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of all the injured. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is making every possible effort for relief and rescue.
