384 Bangladeshi, Rohingyas Arrested Till June in Tripura This Year: BSF

Rohingyas and Bangladeshi infiltration has been increased in Tripura. However BSF has claimed that it is making all-out efforts to prevent border crime in Tripura. Till June 30 of this year,  drugs and various contraband have been seized worth more than Rs 60 crore.

384 Bangladeshi and Indian nationals and Rohingyas have been arrested. BSF Tripura Frontier gave this information in a press statement. 

BSF Tripura Frontier claims that drugs worth Rs 28 crore 25 lakh  have been seized from January 1 to June 30 this year. Out of that, 5,03,674 Yaba tablets worth Rs 25 crore 18 lakh 37 thousand 500, 6,826.25 kg ganja worth Rs 4 crore 43 lakh 24 thousand 250, 51,964 bottles of PHENSEDYL worth Rs 1 crore 3 lakh 17 thousand 656 And there are 4,796 bottles of imported liquor worth Rs 8 lakh 65 thousand 200. Also, 930 cattle worth Rs 1 crore 43 lakh 86 thousand 50 , 466.26 grams of gold worth Rs 35 lakh 60 thousand 828  and other contraband worth 28 crore 25 lakh 13 thousand 831 have been confiscated. In all, drugs and various contraband worth Rs 60 crore 78 lakh 5 thousand 315 have been seized during that period, BSF mentioned in the press release. 

BSF Tripura Frontier further claimed that 384 Bangladeshi and Indian nationals and Rohingyas have been detained for infiltration this year. In the detailed information on this mattee BSF said that among those 384 people, there are 208 Bangladeshi citizens, 160 Indian citizens and 16 Rohingyas. Besides, 16 touts were also arrested during this period. 

According to the BSF Tripura Frontier, efforts are on to develop various infrastructures on the border. At present, construction of single row fences is pending at 8 locations. However, the construction will be completed soon. Also informed that the construction of single row fence at 4 places is going on at a fast pace. 

BSF Tripura Frontier wants to convey that cordial relations with the citizens of the border areas have been developed to prevent crime on the border. Various public relations programs are being implemented for that. In this regard, clean drinking water, health support system, education materials and sports materials are being distributed among the border citizens. 

BSF Tripura Frontier says that advanced technology is being used for strict border surveillance. Thermal imagers, night vision devices, CCTV and drones are being used to prevent crime at the border. Not only this, the border flood lights illuminate the area at night. Besides, the barbed wire fence of the border is being protected by improvised methods and installation of intruder alarms.

The IG of BSF Tripura Frontier said  "in a recent meeting with the BGB in Shillong, the list of those involved in border crimes was exchanged and the border guards of the two countries reached a consensus to take strict action against them. According to him, the nodal officers of both border guarding forces are in regular communication with each other and sharing various information. BSF and BGB troops have been dominating the area with joint patrolling for hours under coordinated day and night patrols". 

He added that special teams have been formed to arrest illegal Bangladeshi citizens and Rohingya immigrants from areas like railway stations and bus stands.
