9th Standard School Girl Died Due To Medical Negligence In IGM. Investigation Team Formed

The second state referral IGM hospital authorities formed a four-member investigation team after allegations were made on Wednesday that class 9 standard school girl Papia Sarkar died due to medical negligence.

A senior doctor working in the hospital has been placed in the investigation team.

A specialist doctor from the surgery, ENT PMR department also has been placed in the investigation team.

A nurse has also been placed in the investigation team.

Papia Sarkar (15) died in the female medicine ward of the  IGM Hospital on Wednesday.

After this death incident, the bereaved family members and relatives became agitated, alleging extreme medical negligence  in the hospital.

They staged a huge protest in the hospital.

Police from Wesy Agartala Police Station rushed to control the situation.

It is learnt that everyone is worried about the hospital's medical system after the shocking and sensational allegations that have been made regarding the death of school girl Papia Sarkar due to medical negligence  in the state's second largest government hospital, IGM, located in the heart of the capital.

Meanwhile, the  medical superintendent of the hospital Dr. Debashree Debbarma said  that a four-member medical team has been formed to investigate the allegations centering this death. The investigation report will be submitted to the hospital medical superintendent in a sealed envelope within seven days. Then the report will be forwarded to the Health Director and the Health Secretary.

It is learnt that the Health Secretary will send the report to the Health Minister who is also the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister will order necessary action to be taken based on the investigation report.

In the last few months, several patients have allegedly died due to negligence and carelessness in the first state referral GBP and IGM hospitals.

There were protests, vandalism, and harassment of doctors at the hospital. The authorities of the two hospitals formed a medical team to investigate the death allegations and conducted an investigation.

The investigation report has also been sent to the Director of Health, Health Secretary, Health Minister and Chief Minister. The grieving families of the deceased have not yet come to know what has come out in the investigation report, nor have they been informed whether any action has been taken against the doctors and nurses based on the investigation report.

It has been alleged that when allegations of medical negligence  are raised in the state's two major government hospitals, medical teams are being formed to investigate to quell the anger of the grieving and affected families and relatives.

The question has been raised why people could not know what the report of the investigation was despite the fact that medical teams were formed and investigated in the last few months regarding the deaths of several patients in these two major government hospitals.

However, the Medical Superintendent of the IGM Hospital claimed that a four-member medical team has been formed for the sake of a fair and impartial investigation. The investigation team will also meet the families of the deceased and take their statements on medical negligence, said the Medical Superintendent.

Meanwhile, West Agartala Police Station OC Rana Chatterjee said that the police have also started an investigation into the allegations of medical negligence.

Incidentally, Papia Sarkar suddenly fell down at her school, Ramakrishna Vidya Mandir. Then the sick Papia was taken from the school to IGM Hospital. Although she was admitted to the Female Medicine Department, the family alleges that she was not given proper  medical services.

Further, she was left in the hospital for two hours without proper  treatment.

The grieving family also alleges that she died within 10 minutes of being given an injection.
