Afghan Cricketers React as Kabul Strike Claims 400 Lives

A devastating airstrike reportedly carried out by Pakistan Air Force struck multiple locations in Kabul on Monday night, including a hospital, resulting in massive casualties. According to Reuters, around 400 people were killed and more than 250 others injured in the attack.

The incident has triggered widespread outrage and grief, with several Afghan cricketers expressing their condolences and condemning the violence.

Star all-rounder Rashid Khan voiced deep sorrow, calling the reported targeting of civilians and critical infrastructure a “war crime.” He stressed that attacks on homes, schools, and medical facilities—whether deliberate or accidental—represent a grave violation of international law. Highlighting the timing during the holy month of Ramadan, Rashid described the incident as “abhorrent” and urged the United Nations and global human rights bodies to conduct a thorough investigation and hold those responsible accountable.

Fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq expressed solidarity with the Afghan people, stating that the nation would overcome the tragedy and rise again despite the immense loss.

All-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai described witnessing the aftermath of the strike, noting that a powerful explosion was followed by flames engulfing a hospital, leading to the loss of innocent lives as people were breaking their fast.

Batsman Ibrahim Zadran also shared his grief, recalling the horrifying scenes and emphasizing the deep pain felt across Kabul.

Former captain Mohammad Nabi delivered one of the most emotional responses, saying the attack had “extinguished the last ray of hope.” He described heartbreaking scenes of families searching for loved ones, with many lives cut short in what he called an inhumane act.

The tragic incident has intensified calls for justice, accountability, and an immediate end to violence targeting civilians.
