After Hanuma Vihari, Now Vijay Shankar To Play For Tripura

After Indian cricketer Hanuma Vihari, now Vijay Shankar has also changed his domestic team and he will be seen playing for Tripura along with Vihari in the upcoming domestic season. Vijay Shankar has already obtained the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) and now he is waiting for formal approval from Tripura.

"I have received the NOC from TNCA but I am yet to receive a confirmation from the Tripura Cricket Association. I will be able to officially announce my change once I get a formal acceptance letter from Tripura," Shankar told Cricbuzz on Tuesday.

Earlier, a Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) official confirmed that Shankar will join Vihari as one of their professional players for the 2025-26 season. Tripura will play in the Elite Division in all three domestic tournaments, the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, with Vihari expected to captain the side.

Shankar, 34, has played 12 ODIs and nine T20 Internationals for India, including the 2019 World Cup encounter against Pakistan at Old Trafford. In domestic cricket, he has been a key player for Tamil Nadu since his debut in 2012. He has played 58 Ranji Trophy matches and scored 3,142 runs at an average of 44.25, including 11 centuries and 16 half-centuries. In List A cricket, he has scored 1,702 runs in 62 matches, while his T20 career includes 1,004 runs in 47 matches.

The all-rounder scored 476 runs in six Ranji matches last season at an average of 52.88, including two centuries. He also scored 188 runs in List A matches, although his campaign in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was not as successful, where he scored only 83 runs in four matches.
