All Gujarat Ministers Resign Ahead of Major Cabinet Reshuffle; Bhupendra Patel to Stay On

In a dramatic political reset, all ministers in the Gujarat government tendered their resignations on Thursday ahead of a massive cabinet reshuffle scheduled for Friday. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will remain the only member of the outgoing cabinet to continue in office.

According to sources, the 16-member cabinet will be expanded to 26, with around seven to ten ministers likely to be reinducted, while the rest will be replaced by new faces. The resignations of those being retained will reportedly not be forwarded to the Governor.

Patel is expected to meet Governor Acharya Devvrat later tonight to formally submit the resignations. The new council of ministers will take oath at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda.

Party insiders said the sweeping reshuffle is part of the BJP’s strategy to inject fresh energy and maintain caste and regional balance ahead of the upcoming municipal elections and the 2027 Assembly polls. Gujarat BJP president Jagdish Vishwakarma coordinated the resignation process, while BJP national general secretary (organisation) Sunil Bansal supervised the exercise.

Sources said Bansal and Patel met each minister individually on Thursday evening at the Chief Minister’s residence, conveying the central leadership’s decision before collecting their resignations. A key meeting to finalise the new cabinet lineup will be held later tonight, with Nadda already in Gandhinagar for consultations.

The new cabinet is expected to include a mix of young and experienced faces, with particular focus on Saurashtra, where the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has been gaining traction. Rising leaders like Rivaba Jadeja, Jayesh Radadiya, and Uday Kangad are among the frontrunners for ministerial berths.

There is also strong speculation that Alpesh Thakor, a prominent leader from the influential Koli community, will be inducted. Thakor, who switched from the Congress to the BJP in 2019, has since consolidated his position in the Gandhinagar South constituency.

Political observers view the reshuffle as a calculated move by the BJP to counter AAP’s growing influence, especially among Leuva Patidars, and to address internal factionalism by rewarding loyalty and performance. However, the inclusion of recent entrants could also stir discontent among long-time party loyalists.
