The anti-rape bill was passed in the West Bengal Assembly on Tuesday. Under the new law, the investigation of a rape case will have to be completed within 21 days.

A trainee doctor was raped and murdered in Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on 8-9 August.

After this, following protests by doctors and political parties across the country, Mamata Banerjee had said that she would make strict laws for crimes like rape in the state. She had also written a letter to the Prime Minister twice for this.

Mamata Banerjee while presenting the government's side on the bill, said- There are 88 fast track courts and 52 special courts for women in West Bengal.

More than 3 lakh cases are registered in them and out of them 3 lakh 11 thousand 489 cases have been settled. 7,000 cases are pending in the fast track courts.

Mamata said on the allegations of the opposition- The opposition says that rape happens in trains, it is the job of RPF to provide security there. The opposition is silent on the Unnao and Hathras cases. This is happening in every state, but I am not glorifying it. Today 90 rape cases are happening every day in the country. Only 2.56% of the accused have been convicted
