After lifting the Asia Cup with a thrilling five-wicket win over Pakistan, the Indian cricket team touched down in Mumbai to a rousing reception from fans.
Addressing the much-talked-about trophy controversy, skipper Suryakumar Yadav said, “It was necessary to respond to Pakistan.”
Surya also shed light on his bond with head coach Gautam Gambhir, describing it as a relationship of deep trust: “My relationship with Gambhir is like that of brothers. Whatever Gambhir Bhai suggests, I do it without thinking.”
The 35-year-old recalled their long association, which began in 2012 when he served as Gambhir’s deputy at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during their maiden IPL title win. Speaking to Rev Sports’ Boria Majumdar, Surya emphasized, “The level of trust between the two is huge.”
Alongside reflecting on the Asia Cup final, Surya reiterated the team’s unity and the importance of standing firm amid controversies.
