The Assam BJP has launched a series of AI-generated and other videos since September 15, portraying a “future takeover” of the state by alleged illegal immigrants, particularly Bengali-speaking Miya Muslims. One widely circulated video titled “Assam without BJP” depicts Guwahati, historic sites, and tea estates under immigrant control, urging voters to “choose carefully.” It has crossed three million views.
State BJP leaders have backed the campaign, linking it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent Assam rally where he warned against “infiltrators.” Ministers Pijush Hazarika and MLA Manab Deka dismissed criticism, arguing the videos highlight demographic threats, not religion.
Opposition leaders, however, condemned the move as divisive. Congress’s Debabrata Saikia accused the BJP of failing to implement the 1985 Assam Accord while simultaneously “inviting illegal migrants” through the CAA and the 2025 Immigration Order extending the cut-off date for deportation. Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi branded the videos as “fear-mongering” and “repulsive Hindutva ideology.”
Political observers believe the BJP has made infiltration its central poll plank for the 2026 Assembly elections, reviving an emotive issue dating back to the anti-foreigner agitations of the 1980s.
