Assam Flood: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Meets PM Modi

The flood situation in Assam is now gradually improving. The number of affected people in 11 districts of the state has come down to 95 thousand. 

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During this, he was informed about the situation in the state. 

CM Sarma said on social media platform X, "It was an absolute privilege to seek the blessings and guidance of Prime Minister Modi today. During the meeting, I briefed him about the flood situation in Assam and apprised him of the various efforts being made to  him for his historic third term."

This year the death toll in floods has risen to 98, while 113 people have lost their lives due to floods, landslides, storm and lightning. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin, the affected people are from 345 villages in 21 revenue circles. The affected districts include Morigaon, Kamrup, Dhemaji, Kamrup Metropolitan, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Nagaon, Golaghat, Goalpara, Jorhat and Cachar.

The worst affected district was Nagaon. Around 70,280 people were affected here. It was followed by Golaghat (12,321) and Cachar (6,773). As of Saturday, the number of affected people in 10 districts was 1.30 lakh. Floodwaters also submerged more than 6,467.5 hectares of crop land. A total of 6,311 people have taken shelter in 35 relief camps.

River Brahmaputra was flowing above the danger mark in Dhubri, while in other affected districts it was receding and flowing below the danger mark. The state has so far witnessed two waves of floods, affecting all 35 districts of the state. The first wave was from May 28 to June 13, while the ongoing second wave started from June 16
