Assam Registered Highest 75.26 % Voter Turnout in 3rd Phase of LS Polls

In the third phase of Lok Sabha elections in the country, 61.45 percent (final figures may change) voting took place in 93 constituencies of 11 states and union territories on Tuesday. Sporadic violence has been reported in some parts of West Bengal.

Assam saw the highest turnout of 75.26 percent, followed by West Bengal at 73.93 percent, while Maharashtra saw the lowest turnout of 54.77 percent, while Bihar saw slightly higher turnout at 56.55 percent.

In Assam, people were seen standing in large queues to vote. Himanta Biswa Sarma voted in Amingaon of Barpeta Lok Sabha seat. The Chief Minister cast his vote along with his wife Rinki Bhuiyan Sarma and daughter Sukanya Sarma at the polling booth of Amingaon High School.

Voting has taken place on four Lok Sabha seats in the state. Voters reached various polling stations in Guwahati, Barpeta, Dhubri and Kokrajhar seats using various modes of transport, including boats. Highest voting took place in the third phase in the state.

More than 1,300 candidates, including about 120 women, are in the fray in the third phase. Out of total 543 seats, voting has been completed on 189 seats in the first two phases. Voting will be held in the next four phases on 13 May, 20 May, 25 May and 1 June. Counting of votes will take place on June 4.
