Assam has registered a 1.35 per cent increase in its electorate following a Special Revision of the electoral rolls conducted ahead of the state’s Assembly elections scheduled for next year, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) announced.
The integrated draft electoral roll, published on December 27, lists 25,201,624 voters, reflecting a notable rise from the final roll released in January 2025. The update follows an extensive house-to-house (H2H) verification exercise carried out between November 22 and December 20. During the revision period from January 6 to December 27, authorities recorded 786,841 new additions and 447,196 deletions.
The draft roll comprises 12,572,583 male and 12,628,662 female electors, resulting in a gender ratio of 1,004 females per 1,000 males, along with 379 third-gender voters. The state’s elector–population ratio stands at 643, supported by 31,486 polling stations. While Mankachar Assembly constituency has the highest number of polling stations at 402, Dotma has the fewest at 146. Dalgaon recorded the largest electorate with 318,326 voters, whereas Arim has the smallest at 100,319.
The draft further identifies 63,314 service voters and 202,433 persons with disabilities (PwD). Young voters aged 18–19 account for 245,084 electors, while 136,546 voters are aged 85 years and above.
According to the CEO, booth-level officers achieved complete coverage, visiting 6,103,103 households during the pre-revision phase. The H2H verification led to the identification of 478,992 deletions, 523,680 shifted electors, and 53,619 cases of multiple registrations.
The CEO clarified that names flagged during verification but not yet removed will be deleted only after formal applications are submitted during the claims and objections period, which will remain open from December 27, 2025, to January 22, 2026. Special enrolment drives are scheduled for January 3–4 and January 10–11. Weekly updates on claims and objections will be shared with recognized political parties.
Decisions taken by electoral registration officers may be appealed to the district magistrate within 15 days, with a further appeal to the CEO permitted within 30 days. The final electoral roll is slated for publication on February 10, 2026.
