Many workers got trapped in the 3 Kilo coal mine in Umrangso area, about 250 km from Guwahati, due to sudden flooding on Monday.
The body of a miner has been recovered from the mine, while eight workers are still missing.
The Indian Army, Assam Rifles, NDRF, SDRF teams and other agencies are engaged day and night in the search for the missing workers.
A joint rescue operation has been going on in the 3 Kilo Umrangso area since January 6. Workers and eyewitnesses told eyewitness accounts of the incident in the coal mine.
A miner named Rajiv Burman said that when the mine started filling with water, some people tried to swim. Some tried to hold ropes and chains.
He said that three of my friends are still trapped inside the mine. We were working at a depth of 300 feet. When the water started filling, we could not understand anything. We just kept praying to God to get out safely.
Rajiv Burman, a worker who came out of the mine, said that he himself was working at a depth of 300 feet. Work in the mine had started only on Monday. When the mine started filling with water, all the workers started taking measures to save themselves.
Rajiv said that all the workers started trying to get out of the mine to save their lives.
8 workers are still trapped in the 3 Kilo Mine located in Dima Hasao district of Assam. The workers got trapped in it after the mine accident on Monday.
Meanwhile, the rescue operation to locate the miners trapped in the mine continued for the fourth day on Thursday.
Assam Police said that the search operation was resumed on Thursday after draining the water throughout the night. A remote-operated vehicle was sent inside the water-filled shaft. However, the ROV has not found anything yet. Despite the extremely adverse and difficult situation, it is trying very hard to locate the miners trapped inside. The water inside has turned completely black, due to which there is a problem in finding anything
