Average 66.95 % Voting In First Four Phases of LS Polls: Election Commission

The Election Commission of India announced the average voting percentage data of  total four phases on Thursday May 16.

According to the data an average  66.95 percent voting took place in the first four phases of Lok Sabha elections. 

So far, out of 97 crore voters, 45.10 crore have voted. 

According to the Commission, 69.16 percent voting took place in the fourth phase of voting held on May 13. This is 3.65 percent more than the corresponding (fourth) phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. 

Voting was 65.69 percent in the third phase of the elections, while 68.4 percent voting was recorded in the third phase of the 2019 elections.

Till the fourth phase of 543 Lok Sabha seats, voting has taken place on 380 seats. Voting will be completed on a total of 429 seats by May 20. Voting will be held on 114 seats in the remaining 3 phases.

The Election Commission said that in the remaining phases of the elections, the focus is on making voters aware and providing facilities. 

Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev said that it is heartening to see that big personalities are making people aware to vote. The Commissioner has appealed to participate and vote enthusiastically in the coming phases.

The Election Commission had released the final data of voting for the first and second phase of Lok Sabha on April 30. 

There was 66.14 percent voting in the first phase and 66.71 percent voting in the second phase. 

On this, opposition parties Congress, Trinamool Congress and CPIM raised questions on the Election Commission over the delay in the final data. 

The opposition said that usually this data is released within 24 hours of voting. But this time it has been released quite late.

TMC leader Derek O'Brien raised questions on the figures of the Election Commission and said that the final data was released four days after the end of the second phase. There is an increase of 5.75% on the figures released by the Election Commission 4 days ago. Is this normal? Or am I missing something?
