Awards Aside, Performance Must Improve: CM Saha

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday asserted that national-level recognition and accolades must not lead to complacency, underscoring the imperative of completing all infrastructure and development projects within strictly defined timelines.

Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Civil Secretariat, the Chief Minister noted that Tripura has secured top national rankings across several sectors and has been honoured for the effective execution of developmental initiatives.

However, he stressed that such achievements should serve as motivation to raise performance standards further, not as grounds for delay or laxity.

Emphasising the need for precision and accountability, Saha directed all departments to set clear targets and ensure the timely completion of projects without cost overruns or procedural bottlenecks.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of building an Atmanirbhar Bharat, the Chief Minister said robust infrastructure development is central to achieving self-reliance and sustained economic growth. He added that every project in the state must be implemented with well-defined milestones and rigorous monitoring mechanisms.

Saha also highlighted the importance of engaging expatriates in Tripura’s development journey, stating that their involvement would help attract investment, particularly in the industrial sector, and strengthen the state’s economic ecosystem.

Reaffirming the BJP-led government’s commitment to infrastructure-led growth, the Chief Minister said substantial budgetary support has been provided to accelerate development and realise the vision of a “New Tripura.” He pointed out that the state budget has increased from approximately ₹27,000 crore in the 2024–25 financial year to ₹32,000 crore in 2025–26, with a significant share allocated to infrastructure development.

During the meeting, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Finance Secretary Apurba Roy, PWD Secretary Kiran Gitte, Urban Development Secretary Abhishek Singh, Education Secretary Raval Hemendra Kumar, Rural Development Additional Secretary Kuntal Das, Director General of Police Anurag, Chief Minister’s Secretary Dr Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty, and senior officials from various departments briefed the Chief Minister on the progress of projects under their respective jurisdictions.
