Amid ongoing concerns over cross-border infiltration along the Tripura frontier, personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended a Bangladeshi national while he was allegedly attempting to enter India illegally.
The arrest was made by BSF jawans from the Lankamura Border Outpost (BOP) during a routine patrol near the Joypur border area on the outskirts of Agartala.
According to officials, the patrolling team spotted two individuals attempting to infiltrate across the international border from Bangladesh. While one of them managed to flee the spot, the security personnel successfully detained the other.
The apprehended individual has been identified as Simon Mia, a resident of the Brahmanbaria District in Bangladesh.
Following the arrest, the BSF handed him over to the West Agartala Police Station for further legal action. Officer-in-Charge Rana Chatterjee confirmed that preliminary investigation indicates the youth had entered Indian territory without valid documentation.
Police have initiated detailed interrogation of the accused to ascertain the circumstances surrounding his illegal entry.
Investigators suspect that a cross-border trafficking or brokerage network may have facilitated the infiltration.
Authorities believe that further questioning could reveal crucial information about individuals or groups involved in organising such illegal crossings.
