The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced a substantial reward of ₹131 crore for the Indian cricket team following its triumphant victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The financial reward will be distributed among the players, coaching staff, and support personnel in recognition of their outstanding performance throughout the tournament.
India secured the prestigious title on Sunday after defeating New Zealand by a commanding margin of 96 runs in the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With this emphatic victory, the Indian team successfully defended its title, becoming the first side in the history of the tournament to win the T20 World Cup in consecutive editions.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India congratulated the players, support staff, and national selectors for achieving this historic milestone, expressing confidence that the team will continue to uphold the nation’s cricketing prestige with similar performances in the future.
Reports indicate that, in addition to the BCCI reward, the Indian team also received a prize purse of approximately $3 million (around ₹27.5 crore) for winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. The runners-up, New Zealand national cricket team, were awarded $1.6 million (about ₹14.7 crore). However, the International Cricket Council did not officially announce the prize structure for this edition beforehand, as is customary for most global tournaments.
With this victory, India national cricket team created history by becoming the first team to successfully defend the T20 World Cup title and also the first to win the tournament three times, having previously lifted the trophy in 2007, 2024, and now 2026.
The triumph also marked India’s first T20 World Cup victory on home soil. Earlier, the team had claimed the title in South Africa in 2007 and in the West Indies in 2024.
With three titles to their name, India now stands ahead of both the West Indies cricket team and the England cricket team, each of whom have won the tournament twice.
Following the historic win, jubilant celebrations erupted among the players. Captain Suryakumar Yadav was seen posing for a celebratory photoshoot with the trophy at Adalaj ni Vav, a 500-year-old architectural stepwell located in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
