BCCI Offered Gautam Gambhir to Take Over The Responsibility of Head Coach of Team India

BCCI has offered Gautam Gambhir to take over the responsibility of the head coach of Team India after the T20 World Cup 2024.

This has been revealed in the report of ESPN Cricinfo. Actually, after T20 World Cup 2024, Rahul Dravid will resign from the post of head coach of Team India. His tenure will end.

After the ODI World Cup played in India, his tenure was extended till the upcoming World Cup. On Monday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invited applications for the post of head coach of Team India.

Meanwhile, ESPN Cricinfo report has revealed that BCCI wants Gautam Gambhir to take over the responsibility of head coach.

Actually, Gambhir is currently the mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL. Under his mentorship, Kolkata has qualified for the playoffs this season. The team led by Shreyas Iyer is the first team to reach the playoffs.

Earlier, Gambhir was associated with Lucknow Super Giants. He remained the mentor of this team for two years. However, he has returned home in IPL 2024.

Recently, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had clarified that there will be no separate coach for different formats. In such a situation, there will be a search for only one coach for all three formats, who will take charge of the Indian cricket team for 3.5 years.

Dravid's tenure is ending after the T20 World Cup. He will also have to apply to remain on the post of head coach. BCCI has set May 27 as the last date for applications.

Cricketers like VVS Laxman, Gautam Gambhir and Justin Langer can apply for this post. If Laxman applies then he will be the biggest contender.

The 49-year-old former Indian cricketer has been heading the NCA for the last three years. India A and Under-19 teams also undergo his supervision. In Dravid's absence, he has also played the role of coach of the Indian team.

Under his coaching, he was the coach of the Indian team in the Hangzhou Asian Games, apart from the home T20 series against Australia, he was also the coach on the tour of England, New Zealand and Ireland.

However, the report claims that Laxman is not the top candidate for the post of permanent head coach. BCCI wants Fleming to become the coach.

According to some media reports, Stephen Fleming's name is also included in the BCCI list.

The board wants former New Zealand player and current head coach of Chennai Super Kings Stephen Fleming to become the head coach of Team India in place of Rahul Dravid.

It will be interesting to see whether Fleming applies for this post or not because for this he will have to stay with the team for 10 months in a year. According to reports, Fleming, who has been the coach of Chennai Super Kings since 2009, is being seen as the perfect candidate to replace Dravid.

There may be big changes ahead in the Indian team and Fleming has the experience to handle the situation. His impressive track record at CSK is also likely to work in his favour
