Union Home Minister Amit Shah today virtually inaugurated state-of-the-art Border Guarding Force (BGF) accommodation at Agartala and Petrapole land ports.
This will ensure overall progress in the welfare and operational capabilities of India's border security forces.
Petrapole, India's largest land port, is the main gateway for trade with Bangladesh and plays a vital role in the economic development of the region.
The port facilitates a significant portion of bilateral trade, contributing to the prosperity of both countries.
The new Border Security Force (BSF) accommodation at Petrapole is set to further enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of border security in this important trade hub.
Similarly, the Agartala land port, located at the India-Bangladesh border in the state of Tripura, is an essential medium for trade and communication between the two countries.
The improved facilities at the port, including new accommodation, are expected to boost trade between the two countries, facilitate border management and bring progress to the local economy.
The new facilities at the two land ports, sanctioned in December 2018 at an investment of around Rs 55 crore, have been constructed with an aim to improve the living conditions of SSB personnel.
The Petrapole land port has an Officers Block, Subordinate Officers Block, Jawans Block and a Women's Block for the Women's Unit spread over an area of 13,339 sq m. The Officers Block can accommodate 5 officers and has a dining area, kitchen and rest facilities.
The Subordinate Officers Block can accommodate 24 personnel, while the Jawans Block accommodates a significant number of Jawans, which have improved and adequate facilities.
At Agartala Land Port, the accommodation for Border Security Personnel is spread over an area of 8093.7 sq m and there is a block with all the facilities for Border Security Personnel.
The women's block is constructed to accommodate 8 women jawans where they can live comfortably. The officers' block with an area of 659 sq m provides residential facilities for 5 officers.
A four-storey building, the Subordinate Officers' and Jawans' Block houses 16 Subordinate Officers and accommodates 128 jawans, including a dining hall, kitchen and a multipurpose hall.
The official inauguration of these residences is in line with the government's commitment to provide modern and comfortable accommodation to the security forces, who tirelessly work to protect the country's borders.
The residential complexes for security personnel at Petrapole and Agartala land ports have been constructed with an aim to improve the comfortable living conditions of the security forces.
It also highlights the importance of border management infrastructure in promoting trade between the two countries and maintaining influential international relations.
