Bihar Phase 1 Polls: 64.46% Turnout, NDA Claims Edge

Voting for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections concluded on Thursday with a record turnout of 64.46% between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., surpassing the 55.68% turnout in 2020. Reports from over 400 polling stations are still awaited, according to Chief Electoral Officer Vinod Gunjyal, who noted a higher participation of women voters this time.
With polling complete, the fate of 1,314 candidates across 121 seats in 18 districts has been locked in EVMs. Of these, 104 seats saw direct contests, while 17 constituencies witnessed triangular fights.
The second and final phase of voting for Bihar’s 243-member Assembly will follow soon, with results to be declared on November 14.
Political Stakes & Hot Seats
The reputation of 18 ministers, including two deputy chief ministers, is at stake in this round. Prominent names such as Tejashwi Yadav, Tej Pratap Yadav, Samrat Chaudhary, Vijay Kumar Sinha, and Anant Singh are contesting from key battleground seats.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing confidence after the first phase, posted on X:
> “The NDA has taken a huge lead in the first phase of voting. Its wave is visible everywhere in the second phase as well.”
He also announced public meetings in Aurangabad (1:45 pm) and Bhabua (3:30 pm) on Friday.

1. Lakhisarai: Deputy CM Vijay Sinha’s convoy attacked amid clash with RJD MLC Ajay Singh.
2. Patna: RJD’s Bhai Virendra threatened a police inspector during an ID check in Maner.
3. Vaishali: CAPF personnel pelted with stones after alleged provocation by RJD’s Ravind Kumar Singh.
4. Darbhanga: Police attacked after responding to threats against a polling agent. Two detained.

6. Lakhisarai: Police conducted flag march after reports of booth capturing.
7. EVM Glitches: Machines malfunctioned in 10 districts, disrupting polling temporarily.
8. Protests: “Vote theft” slogans in Lalganj, Vaishali; polling halted briefly.
9. Patna Sahib: Heated exchange between polling staff and Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav.
10. Boycott: Voting boycotted at eight booths in Siwan, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur over local demands.
11. Nalanda: Four BJP workers detained for distributing leaflets near polling stations.
12. Munger: Historic voting in Naxal-hit Bhimband village — first time in 20 years.
