BJP Eyes Full Sweep in High-Stakes ADC Elections

The Tripura unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has significantly accelerated its organisational groundwork ahead of the impending elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), with indications that the party’s candidate roster will be unveiled in the near term.

Insiders reveal that an intensive series of strategic consultations is currently in progress, aimed at crystallising the party’s electoral blueprint and shortlisting viable contenders.

The leadership is reportedly prioritising candidates with deep-rooted grassroots engagement and an untainted public reputation, in a calculated bid to fortify its electoral standing in the council polls.

These elections are widely perceived as a critical political battleground, with the BJP striving to consolidate and broaden its influence across the tribal heartland.

Chief Minister Manik Saha has previously articulated the party’s ambition to contest all seats in the ADC elections.

Meanwhile, the prospects of a continued alliance with the Tipra Motha Party—the incumbent authority in the council—remain ambiguous, as both entities intensify independent mobilisation efforts to solidify their respective support bases within tribal constituencies.

In a concurrent development, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh and National Secretary Vinod Sonkar, who arrived in the state on Friday, convened a high-level meeting with the Chief Minister in Agartala.

Characterising the interaction as “constructive and purposeful,” the Chief Minister underscored deliberations centred on organisational consolidation and the advancement of developmental priorities.

The visiting central leadership subsequently held a closed-door meeting with state functionaries at the State Guest House.

The session was attended by Assembly Speaker Rampada Jamatia, along with ministers Tinku Roy and Kishor Barman, in addition to other senior party members.

A further pivotal organisational conclave is scheduled at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Yuva Awaas on Saturday morning, where deliberations are expected to focus on refining electoral strategies and finalising the slate of candidates for the polls scheduled on April 12.

As per the State Election Commission, a total electorate of 9,62,697 voters will participate across 28 constituencies. This comprises 4,82,025 male voters, 4,80,666 female voters, and six voters from the third gender category.

In total, 1,257 polling stations have been designated and classified based on sensitivity parameters. The counting of votes is slated for April 17.
