BJP Terrorizing Ahead of Panchayat Elections: Opposition Leader of Tripura

CPIM Tripura State Secretary and Leader of Opposition Jitendra Choudhury said that ruling BJP is terrorizing the entire state centering the upcoming Three-tier Panchayat Elections.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday at the party headquarters Choudhury mentioned that:

Opposition parties candidates  failed to submit nomination papers in various blocks across the state. The reason for this is that the ruling party has been terrorizing the entire state since July 11.

Thursday was the last day to submit nomination papers. But in many places, the candidates of the opposition party could not submit their nomination papers due to the terror of the ruling party since morning.

A strong protest by the Left Front drew the attention of the Election Commission and demanded that the Election Commission take steps to ensure that the candidates of all the constituencies who could not submit their nomination papers for the miscreants can submit their nomination papers.

There were demands to extend the deadline for submission of nomination papers. Hope the Election Commission will reconsider the matter.

The police have been playing the role of silent spectators since the beginning of the election. Not actively playing their role. We demanded to the District Magistrates, sub-divisional magistrates, BDOs, police station OCs and state Director Generals of Police to make arrangements for candidates to file nomination papers through tight security.

Demand was made to the Election Commission also to open a separate counter in one of the offices of the district and arrange to receive the nomination papers by placing the Additional RO. If the situation is tensed then the candidates can go to that additional counter and submit nomination papers to the Additional Returning Officer. Worryingly, no provision has been made for this.

The Election Commission directed the police to deploy adequate number of security personnel to facilitate the filing of nomination papers. But it was found that adequate security was not provided. In the block offices, the ruling party miscreants encamped at different places on the road and prevented the filing of nomination papers.

Especially on Thursday, the last day of filing nomination papers, miscreants started throwing bricks and attacking opposition party workers and supporters in various areas including Nalchar, Hapania area under Dukli block while going to file nomination papers.

Party activists including former MP Jharna Das Vaidya have been attacked. We protest such things and once again demanding that the Election Commission  take action for those who could not file their nomination papers
