BNP Alleges Delhi-Based Awami League Leaders Eye Poll Chaos

In a dramatic escalation of Bangladesh’s pre-election tensions, the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Friday alleged that senior leaders of the outlawed Awami League, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, are orchestrating a conspiracy from Delhi to derail the February national elections.

BNP stalwart Zainul Abedin Farroque claimed that following the “mass uprising” which forced Hasina from power last year, many Awami League heavyweights fled to India and are now working with “domestic collaborators” under Delhi’s shadow to destabilise the country.

> “These fugitives are plotting to prevent elections under the interim government and to drag Bangladesh back into chaos,” Farroque thundered at a press briefing, accusing India of tacit involvement.

In a striking move, Farroque also turned fire on Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), urging the Islamist party to publicly apologise for its “historic crimes” during the 1971 Liberation War genocide, while accusing it of weaponising religion to sway voters.

Meanwhile, political unrest intensified in the capital as a mob stormed the Jatiya Party’s Dhaka office on Friday, underscoring the fragile state of law and order just months before the polls.

With the interim government under mounting pressure and rival factions trading explosive accusations, Bangladesh appears to be entering its most volatile election season in over a decade.
