The bridge over the Harang river in Assam's Cachar district suddenly collapsed on Tuesday night due to overloading. This created panic in the area and people faced a serious problem of movement. After the collapse of the bridge, life has been badly affected, especially school children, patients and daily commuters are facing a lot of difficulties.
Taking the situation seriously, the Cachar district administration immediately swung into action and identified the five responsible people and started taking action against them. Along with this, the army has been called to the spot for relief and rescue work. From 6 am to evening, the army team is helping the local people cross the river through boats so that essential activities are not disrupted.
NDRF and SDRF teams have also been deployed to handle the situation. To strengthen the security system, boats of both the agencies are also being operated in the river, so that the crowd remains under control and safe movement can be ensured.
The administration has also opened an alternative route to provide relief to the people of Barak Valley. Relief agencies are on special vigil to provide special facilities to school children. State Minister Kaushik Rai also reached the spot and took stock of the situation.
He assured that an alternative bridge will be constructed within 5 to 7 days so that people do not face any problem. Apart from this, a magistrate investigation committee has been formed to investigate this entire accident, which will identify the culprits and take strict action.
