Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, a distinguished oral and maxillofacial surgeon, returned to his alma mater — King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow on Friday — where he was conferred with an Honorary Fellowship in recognition of his exceptional contributions to medicine and medical education.

Dr. Saha attended the three-day programme “Renovated Maxillofacial Trauma Gallery,” inaugurated on Friday at KGMU’s Centenary Phase-II campus, as the Chief Guest. The event brought together leading maxillofacial surgeons from India and abroad to share knowledge and demonstrate advanced surgical techniques.
Renowned Chennai-based surgeon Dr. Ananth Narayan and other specialists conducted live demonstrations on surgical airway procedures, orbital access techniques, and bone graft harvesting methods, providing valuable learning opportunities for young medical professionals.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Saha said,
“This event is not only about exchanging experiences among experts but also about creating hands-on learning opportunities for young doctors. Such collaborations strengthen the foundation of medical science.”

A proud alumnus of KGMU with an MDS in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Saha expressed deep emotion while reminiscing about his student days. He received the Honorary Fellowship from the university authorities as a mark of distinction for his contributions to the medical field.
Emphasizing the importance of language in medical education, Dr. Saha added,
'Learning medicine in one’s mother tongue enhances comprehension, builds empathy, and makes doctor-patient communication more humane and effective.”
In a special gesture, KGMU also announced the institution of the “Dr. Manik Saha Gold Medal” to be awarded to outstanding students, further honoring the Chief Minister’s legacy as an alumnus and medical professional.
It may be recalled that Dr. Saha had earlier attended KGMU’s “International Georgian Meet” at the Atal Bihari Convention Centre on December 22, 2023, as a distinguished guest. His consistent engagement with his alma mater reflects his lifelong commitment to advancing healthcare and medical education.
