Veteran opener Sunil Gavaskar has described fast bowler Jaspreet Bumrah as the next captain of the Indian Test team.
The 75-year-old Gavaskar said to Channel-7 - 'I think he can be the next person (captain). Because he leads from the front. He has a very good image of a leader.'
Bumrah captained Team India in the absence of Rohit Sharma in the first and last matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The Indian team won the first match played in Perth by 295 runs. Whereas in the Sydney Test, they had to face a defeat of 6 wickets. Australia won this series 3-1.
Jasprit Bumrah was the top wicket taker in the 5 Test match series against Australia. He took 32 wickets.
For this he was also selected as the Player of the Tournament.
Bumrah's strong performance in BGT has made him one of the contenders for captaincy.
After losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Rohit Sharma's captaincy is in danger, because he has not been able to score runs for some time.
Rohit scored only 31 runs in BGT. In such a situation, there is a demand to remove him from captaincy.
Amidst this demand, Gavaskar has given a statement.
Bumrah can be given rest in ODI and T20 series against England. He is being given rest as a part of workload management.
He has bowled 141.2 overs in four matches of Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The English team is coming to India just before the Champions Trophy. The team has to play a series of 5 T20 and 3 ODIs here. This series is starting from 22 January.
